Climate affects sectors in society in a number of ways. These effects may be direct, as with heat stress, or indirect, as with infectious diseases such as malaria and meningitis.

This facility aims to explore and inform users about the climate-society relationship with an emphasis on the seasonal nature of that relationship, where appropriate.

This map shows how wet and dry periods have varied over time. Draw a rectangle over a region or click a place on the map, to see graphs for that location. These graphs depict how much rainfall (or temperature) varies from year to year, decade to decade, and over the past century. This information can be used for planning purposes on different timescales, and to provide context for recent memories of rainfall patterns or specific events in a longer-term perspective.
MEWS is a rainfall-monitoring product based on dekadal precipitation estimates from the Climate Prediction Center. The interface allows users to view recent rainfall estimates with a seasonal and recent historical perspective. Time series analyses of rainfall data are generated based on user-selected parameters.
This map shows monthly precipitation anomalies for the globe.
